what makes microsoft laptops with solid state drive?

Laptops are getting more and more popular these days. New models, comes with a lot of features to suit every individual situation. The laptops for this season includes laptop that is running on AMD Ryzen processors, Intel Core i7-7700HQ etc... Some of them are mid-level gaming laptops that have SSD Solid State Drive (SSD) these drives are faster than Hard Disk Drives (HDDs). But what is the difference between HDD and SSD? What makes microsoft laptops with solid state drive?

SSD provides higher speed performance than HDDs while they save space. Most results from consumer tests show that SSD drives can provide 15 to 20% better performance than Hard Disk Drives. Many popular operating systems and programs are already optimized for use on SSD drives. Microsoft Windows is one of them. Solid State Drive works fast to boot up your machines while they use less power due to having smaller internal memory size compared to HDD. With this technology, you will get better performance with less waste of power using devices with SSDs in laptops along with a lower cost when choosing this type of drive in addition, it will also provide longer average life cycle than traditional Hard Disk Drives with far less chance that it can fail so you do not lose anything on data loss or critical files like photos and videos are lost easily.

With newer laptops that have SSD drives, they are faster than HDD. The data transfer rate is how fast the HDD can read and write data. When there are two hard disks, one is the primary partition and the other is the secondary or slave partition. The primary partition has PIO mode of 3 and for the secondary partition to be compatible with PIO mode 2, it needs to set DMA burst mode. Both should be set to PIO mode 3 for best performance. When the HDD performs read and write operations, it first checks the partition table to see if there is a free space in that partition and if it can read from it. The processor will transfer data from the area where a free space was found to the memory which is slower with PIO mode. With SSD drives, there is no need for a partition table because data is directly transferred inside the device.

The fastest speed comes from mechanical hard disks, but they have a much slower access time when reading information than solid state drives. Solid state drives are much faster not only because you get higher performance with fewer wasted movements but also due to their smaller physical size and faster chip draw up speed.

SSDs have a non-volatile memory that helps save power and reduce your costs because you do not need to run the fans to keep them cool. It uses a flash memory instead of magnetic platters that could carry out the same functions.

The price of SSD disks is lower than its HDD counterpart. But the storage space of SSD is much less than the HDD, its storage capacity is smaller, but it can be considered as an alternative for those seeking speed up from their laptops with solid state drives.

There are various different types of SSDs in laptops, which includes Flash Memory Modules (FMM) and single-level cell (SLC) flash memory or multi-level cell (MLC).
